Surgical procedures are scheduled at Sunrise Medical Centre in Grand Bahama. You will be brought to your room where you will recover post-operatively. Prior to surgery, you will complete a pre-surgical questionnaire and any necessary forms.
If you are having a general anaesthetic:
You will meet the Anaesthesiologist who will start an I.V.
You must not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to the day of your surgery.

If you are having local anaesthetic with sedation, Dr. Dickie will start your I.V. in preparation for your procedure.

The surgical suite is equipped with the most state-of-the-art medical equipment, including a patient warming system, sequential compression devices for the legs, various lasers for skin resurfacing and hair removal, as well as monitoring equipment to ensure the highest standard of care during your procedure.

Surgical procedures vary in length, depending upon the nature of the procedure. Our aim is to maintain the highest standard of patient safety while completing your procedure in a relaxing, hospitable environment.

The majority of surgical procedures performed by Dr. Dickie are done as out-patient cases. In some cases, an overnight stay at Sunrise Medical Centre will be required if warranted by your medical procedure or medical history. It should be noted that if you have a general anaesthetic for your procedure and are not staying the night at Sunrise Medical Centre, it will be necessary to have an adult accompanying you in the hotel room that night.

During your recovery from your surgical procedure, you will be staying in the accommodation selected by yourself and perhaps your travelling companion. We offer a suite at www.pelicanbayhotel.com at our special patient rate.

Generally, post-operative pain is minimal after cosmetic surgery and is easily managed with appropriate medications given to you by Dr. Dickie. AT ALL TIMES, DR. DICKIE WILL BE AVAILABLE to assist you during your recovery.

Most of our patients plan a holiday while in the Bahamas. Generally, your recovery from surgery occurs over a number of weeks following your procedure. However, in most cases, the majority of our patients will travel after 1 week. In the ensuing weeks following your return home, you will be able to follow a list of instructions specific to your surgery. Anything of a major nature medically, is done prior to you leaving Grand Bahama (ex. removal of drainage tubes). As the majority of sutures used by Dr. Dickie are absorbable, you will not have to undergo the uncomfortable process of suture removal during your recovery at home. At anytime during your recovery, we are just a phone call or an e-mail away.

Should anything of an urgent nature come up during your recovery while at home, Dr. Dickie would instruct you to go to the nearest emergency department. Although the likelihood of this occurring is small, unusual symptoms appearing a week or 10 days after surgery should not be taken lightly. At all times, Dr. Dickie will be available to assist you in relaying information about your problem if it is warranted.

Dressing changes and suture removal in 1st week post-operatively.

Dr. Dickie and Mrs. Dickie will communicate with patients on a regular basis while they are recovering after returning home. Though there is a chance that some medical intervention may be required during recovery. Though this is unlikely, arrangements can be made for assessment by our medical personnel.
